Lower initiations are expected due to the risk of the spread of the coronavirus, said the new White House chief of staff

US President-elect Joe Biden will announce the first name chosen for his cabinet on Tuesday, said the new White House chief of staff — and expects the opening ceremony to diminish due to the risk of the spread of the coronavirus.

As his transition team rushed forward — despite Donald Trump’s failure to allow elections and continued to work to thwart the transition process — Ron Klein said on Sunday that appointments were moving faster than the previous two administrations.

“This Tuesday you will see the first pictures of the Cabinet. But if you want to know what a Cabinet Body is, who will be in that Cabinet Body, you have to wait for the President-elect to say it himself on Tuesday,” he told the ABC.

Anthony Blinken, a number 2 professional diplomat in the State Department and deputy national security adviser in the Obama administration, was the most likely election for Biden to become secretary of state on Sunday evening, according to reports in the New York Times and Reuters.

It came after Biden said Thursday he had chosen his finance minister, indicating only that he was someone who would be “accepted” by all elements of the Democratic Party.

Klein said while part of the transition moves at a “record pace” there are limits to what Biden’s team can do as the current administration continues to try to block the transition, the effects of which are “increasing every day”.

He said Biden and Vice President-elect Kamala Harris had no access to information, coronavirus data or background checks on cabinet candidates and criticized GSA administrator Emily Murphy for delaying Biden’s victory.

“The law only obliges him to know who is the clear winner, and I have no argument that Joe Biden is the clear winner of the presidential election.”
